Fun & Healthy Drinks for Kids
Staying hydrated is important for kids, especially when summer heat is in full swing! Kids might not always realize when they're thirsty, so it's a great idea to keep a water bottle filled and ready nearby.
Here’s a list of fun and refreshing drinks to keep your little ones happily hydrated:
Coconut water Tastier than plain water and healthier than soda or sports drinks. Coconut water has the added benefits of electrolytes to help maintain hydration. Plus, it provides nutrients like magnesium, potassium, and vitamin C as well.
Flavored Ice Fun and colorful, infused ice cubes will entice your kiddos to get to the bottom of their water bottle. Simply add their favorite fruit pieces to an ice tray, top with water, and freeze. Pro tip: Our Baking Trays will make fun long cubes that fit perfectly into your Glacier, Sip Spout, or Pour Spout Water Bottle.
Homemade Iced tea- You can find all sorts of fun tea flavors at your grocery store. For a fun summer activity, try making sun tea. All you need is a large glass dispenser. Add in 1 gallon of water and 8 tea bags. Let it steep outside in the sun for at least 3 hours, add in lemon slices, and lightly sweeten with honey or agave.
Slushies Naturally sweet, a homemade slushy is super refreshing and easy to make. Blend together 2 cups of fruit such as melon or berries with 1 cup ice and ½ cup sparkling water.
Milk alternatives Almond milk, coconut milk, and cashew milk, for example, all make for a creamy treat! Plus they contain protein, vitamins, and other nutrients that can help rehydrate children. Opt for the unsweetened version and sweeten it up a tad home instead with honey or maple syrup.
BRAZILIAN LEMONADE
This is our favorite creamy, cool summer drink and soon it will be yours too! Refreshing and lightly sweetened, it's like key lime pie in a glass (or water bottle)!
Makes 3 servings
Ingredients
5 limes (with thin rind)
2 cups cold water
1 cup condensed milk (you can even sub in coconut milk!)
Directions
1. Wash and scrub limes. Cut them into 1/8ths.
2. Combine the limes with water and blend for 30 seconds. Be careful not to overblend, you don’t want the limes to completely be broken up.
3. Pour over a strainer into a pitcher and press to release juices. Discard the pulp.
4. Add the lime juice back into the cleaned blender with condensed milk and blend until frothy.
5. Serve over ice.
*adding more sugar is optional, to taste
